TThis project commenced with an in-depth examination of the formal interplay between various objects and their respective containers. My initial focus was on a simplistic pencil holder shaped like a fist, which inspired me to design an array of containers based on this form. As the project evolved, a central theme emerged: the exploration of power dynamics within design.
The pinnacle of this exploration is embodied in the design of a pavilion, which artistically represents the intricate and dynamic relationship between a fist and a flower – a juxtaposition of aggression and delicacy, where apparent imbalance fosters harmony. The architectural form of the pavilion is inspired by a flower, meticulously deconstructed and reimagined. This reconfiguration gives rise to a structure featuring a canopy and base, with walls resembling ribbons that undulate in height.
A key structural element is the roof, supported by a column abstractly representing a fist. This column, though seemingly imbalanced on its own, achieves equilibrium when integrated with the overall design of the building. The pavilion's primary function was to showcase and house a chair on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany, thereby merging conceptual design with practical utility. This project not only reflects a deep understanding of form and function but also delves into the symbolic interplay of contrasting elements within architectural design.
